Rich with context-specific symbolism, seven upward-facing horse shoes are presented as a memorial marking the death of Kelsey's father. The horseshoes draw a tether to her father's history as a stable worker and aspirations of riding as a jockey. The horsehoes themselves are patinated using an uncommon technique that requires burial under woodchips and patina solution, which causes a transformation. This process mirrors the real life process of burial and stages of grieving expierenced in the wake of Kelsey's father's passing.
